Σκοπός του συνεδρίου ήταν η παρουσίαση και η εποικοδομητική συζήτηση θεμάτων που αφορούσαν στην καλλιέργεια, προώθηση και διάδοση της μικρόκαρπης τομάτας. Η Σαντορίνη ήταν το ιδανικό μέρος για να φιλοξενήσει το συνέδριο καθώς, πέρα από το γεγονός ότι αποτελεί ένα από τα πιο όμορφα και ξεχωριστά μέρη στον κόσμο, στη γη της καλλιεργείται εδώ και πολλά χρόνια μικρόκαρπη τομάτα, το "τοματάκι" όπως το αποκαλούν οι ντόπιοι. Για μεγάλη χρονική περίοδο μάλιστα αποτέλεσαν, μαζί με το κρασί, τα κύρια προϊόντα της γεωργικής οικονομίας της, με άμεση συμβολή στην επιβίωση των κατοίκω...
