Although Attica is home to more than four million people, nearly half the population of the country, parts of this arid and mountainous region are as untouched as if they lay on its distant borders. To most of the tourists who pass through its airport and seaports, and who stay in Central Athens to visit the famous monuments, this is a genuine terra incognita. Το Ίδρυμα Μελίνα Μερκούρη και ο κ. Jules Dassin μου έκαναν την τιμή να μου αναθέσουν τη συγγραφή ενός βιβλίου γνώσεων για νέους με θέμα τον Παρθενώνα και τα γλυπτά του. Σκοπός του βιβλίου είναι να εξοικειωθούν οι αναγνώστες με την κλασική τέχνη, αρχιτεκτονική και γλυπτική, έτσι ώστε όταν επισκεφθούν την Ακρόπολη αλλά και το Βρετανικό Μουσείο, όπου είναι σήμερα μοιρασμένα τα γλυπτά του μεγάλου ναού, να μπορέσουν να τα κατανοήσουν και να τα αγαπήσουν. The Melina Mercouri Foundation and Mr. Jules Dassin have honoured me with a request to write a book for young people about the Parthenon and its sculpture.
