Despite the impression we might get when visiting an archaeological museum and seeing colorless white statues, ancient Greek statues were multicolored. Artists used vivid colors to paint their sculptures, since they were copying the world around them. They sought to use color to bring their sculptures to life and to highlight certain details.

This CVA fascicule, the fourth in the Greek series, includes 108 Attic black-figure skyphoi in the National Museum of Athens. This CVA fascicule includes seventy-eight Attic and five Atticizing amphorae dating to the period from Sub-Mycenaean to Late Geometric. The textbook Greek art and archaeology, written by Greek specialist Dimitris Plantzos and published by Kapon Editions in 2011, was selected by Atlanta-based American publishers Lockwood Press as their first venture into the field of classical archaeology. Islands off the beaten track is the name of a series of archaeological exhibitions being organised by and held at the Museum of Cycladic Art, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
