Σκοπός του μικρού αυτού βιβλίου είναι να ξεναγήσει τον επισκέπτη στα ερείπια του ιερού της Ήρας και να τον κατατοπίσει σχετικά με τα διάφορα μνημεία, που συχνά είναι τόσο κατεστραμμένα ώστε δεν αναγνωρίζονται πια. Τούτος ο οδηγός συνοδεύει τον επισκέπτη στο πέρασμά του μέσα από μια ακραία συνοικία της αρχαίας πόλης της Αθήνας, με λίγα κτίρια στη μικρή περιοχή μέσα στην πόλη και με πολυάριθμους τάφους στην περιοχή έξω από τα καλοδιατηρημένα οχυρωματικά τείχη, που χωρίζουν την πόλη από το προάστιο.
