Das Olympia ist ein Teil der Reihe der Bande, Die griechischen Museen, die wollen dem Leser deren kostbare Schatze nahebringen und ihn mit der Geschichte der griechischen Kunst bekanntmachen. Die in den griechischen Museen ausgestellten Werke werden von Fachwissenschaftlern mit einfuhrenden Texten prasenteirt und die Epoche un den Rahmen gestellt, in denen sie entstanden sind. In den Banden dieser Reihe werden ausserdem die archaeologischen Statten gezeigt, mit exklusiven Luftaufnah-men und reicher Illustration.

Olympie fait partie du volume intitule Les Merveilles des Musees Grecs, ouvrage qui presente au lecteur les tresors inestimables que renferment les principeaux musees de la Grece. Les objets choisis sont commentes par des specialistes qui essayent de les replacer dans leur contexte historique et culturel. En outre sont egalement presentes les sites archeologiques les plus importants abondamment illustres entre autres par des phorographies aeriennes exclusives.

In autumn 1977 an unplundered royal tomb containing works of art of astounding richness and exquisite craftmanship was discovered by professor Manolis Andronicos at Vergina in Macedonia.[...] In response to this interest nine scholars, all eminent specialists in the history of 4th century Greece, describe th tumultuous career of Philip, re-evaluate his personality and re-examine his political achievements in the light of the recent discoveries.
