Οι πεντατονικές σκάλες είναι οι αρχαιότερες και οι πιο σημαντικές σκάλες της μουσικής. Η ηλικία τους είναι πολύ μεγάλη (7000 χρόνια περίπου) και οι μουσικές εφαρμογές τους πάρα πολλές. Για τον κιθαρίστα του rock, του blues ή της jazz είναι απαραίτητες. Μια αναλυτική μελέτη τους θα βοηθήσει τόσο στην κατάκτηση του μπράτσου της κιθάρας όσο και στην ανάπτυξη της φρασεολογίας και τη γενικότερη τεχνική βελτίωση.
