Under the Shadow of Athos

Under the Shadow of Athos

Skiathos 2011. The famous photographer Victor Kyriakopoulos arrives from abroad on the island of Papadiamantis to record with his lens the known and unknown aspects of the place in the context of his next professional venture. There in the shadow of Athos (Skia + Athos = Skiathos), we watch his wanderings on the island, we see aspects of Greek reality and we witness a path that moves on two levels: The first one is artistic anxiety, looking for ways to find expression in a place endowed by nature, but encased at the same time in its reputation as a tourist destination. The second is that of the hero's internal search, who seeks angrily answers to the great questions of human existence. Through his eyes and mainly through his lens we watch as if in a movie the society of people in all its forms of expression and, inevitably, we recognize ourselves or part of it in the plethora of characters the hero meets and associates . At the same time, we know places and signs of the island that make up the great image the hero wants to build, as well as pieces of the island's history through its wanderings, where the average traveler usually does not attempt to reach, as well as the Recording the ethics and customs of Greek culture and tradition. The end of this journey is marked by an unexpected event, which, through its tragedy, leads the hero to the answers that have been pending for years, turning the way of return to a redeeming journey of self-awareness and inner peace. There, under the shadow of Athos, on the return ship, Victor Kyriacopoulos recognizes for the first time the power of human nature to impose light on the dark.
