Kommos

Kommos

A Minoan Harbor Town and Greek Sanctuary in Southern Crete

Situated on the south cost of Crete, the site of Kommos is now a sandy beach, marked only by tamarisk and juniper. 3.500 years ago, however, it was a busy Minoan harbor town with trading links extending to Egypt and Sardinia. In later periods, a Greek sanctuary was built on the same location, a convenient stopping points for trevelers across the Libyan sea.
